Necros: Favourite ways of dealing with mobs with multiple healers?
Despite having reached lvl 11 I still have problems dealing with mobs that have multiple healers in them. I just can't seem to damage them quickly enough! I've tried putting lots of points in Fire magic (elementalist secondary) and just blasting them to bits, and that's what we do if I'm partnering with an elementalist friend of mine (simply inflicting so much damage they can't heal it fast enough), but that seems like a very crude and wasteful method, and I can't do it efficiently when I'm the only spellcaster in a party or when I'm soloing. Isn't there some way to somehow cripple/disable them? Prevent them from casting, or at least slow their spells down or decreasing their effect? I've been looking at putting more points into curses so I can be an effective disabler, but a look at my current spells doesn't show anything that can do that. Are there any spells in the necro or elementalist repertoire that are good at doing this, and, if yes, where can I get them?

I use two options...
1) kill alot of baddies before hand to get some minions going 2) use deathly swarm so healers heal themselves. Don't spam skills so you have enough energy to spam skills. Then i just DP VG VT after they heal and you cast deathly swarm. You should be able to take em out quick enough if you have blood at a decent level. |

Get a party that doesn't rely only on you to kill them?At level 11 there should be nothing difficult enough that 2 or 3 people attacking a single target can't take on with a little effort
Press ctrl and then click your target or skill to Target something then if everyone hits T i believe they'll all attack whatever you are |

Hi I'm sorry if this is a thread steal but I am looking for a good well rounded minion master build could someone build a proven build that would work well within a group focusing on the minion dark aura combo?

Necro right? We have a skill called Defile Flesh that causes the mob receiving the healing to only get 2/3s of it. Cast it on the healers and then use deathly swarm as mentioned above. Going to be hard for them to keep up the heals when they aren't getting full benefit from it.

Hmm. Consider Meteor Shower or Maelstrom. Both are expensive, and overkill for single targets, but they will both heartily shut down AI healers. There are some knockdown skills that you will gain access to, but I don't find single interrupts to be very useful in pve. Either Shower or Maelstrom will keep them suppressed for awhile, which is all you need.

hehe.. my necro / mezzer combo, i like to put a backfire, and a couple dots on the healers.. they drop very fast.
but, in any situation where you fighting groups of mobs with healers... kill the healers first... get your whole group on one mob at a time. |

Some good suggestions here... only problem is I haven't yet gained access to most of the skills mentioned here! Also, although I know Fire Magic is powerful, I would like to be able to do it using only my Necro skills so I don't spread my attribute points too thin. Aren't there any other Curses that inhibit or slow down spellcasting so I can shut them down? The main problems are with mobs that don't include fighters, just shooters and casters who stay bunched closely together and constantly use area heal on themselves. Otherwise I'd be able to pick them off piecemeal.

Necros are more anti melee/ranger than they are anti-caster. Thing about Maelstrom - it takes NO points to be effective against the AI. The duration is static, so you can easily keep a healer (or a group of casters!) completely suppressed for 10 seconds. Meteor Shower would fit with your Fire (since you have easier access to Fire skills for awhile). You can get Shower in the swamp just north of Lion's Arch, once you get there. Until then, well, you honestly shouldn't need *that* much healer interruption. I can't recall where Maelstrom was picked up though...
There are a few Necro skills that can be used (eg, Mark of Subversion, Spinal Chills), but most are rather specialized, and aren't really what you need to spank the dumb AI healers/casters. Brute force tends to work better (something Elems specialize in ) |

Bring a Mesmer along with you. Backfire is devastating against enemy casters, including healers. When we engage, I always slap Backfire on the closest healer and interrupt any other. Generally, that first healer is toast in about 10 seconds and the other follows soon after with another Backfire application.
But then again, I have a Mesmer bias. I'm sure the Necros have other methods, but probably not as efficient as Mes. |
